Clinic
The 3rd Pathology Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was founded in 1986 to accommodate the Pathology Clinic of the Thrace Branch of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, when it was transferred to the University of Thessaloniki under the direction of Professor Sotirios Panagiotopoulos.
The Clinic was established in the General Hospital "Papanikolaou" but unfortunate circumstances did not allow its operation until 1995, when Professor Michael Cholevas, the director of the Clinic, began to develop educational work. In 1999, Professor Michael Sion was elected director, who initially organized and developed full educational activity with Lecturer Melina Armenaka as his sole collaborator, while in May 2003 he settled and started full operation at "Papanikolaou" hospital. A historical moment for its development and growth was the relocation of the Clinic to Papageorgiou General Hospital in 2005, where it remains until now. After the retirement of Professor Sion in 2011, Professor Konstantinos Paletas was elected and took over as Director.
The 3rd Pathology Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in the few years of its operation, has accomplished its goals as an integrated educational, nursing and research unit and is not inferior to the older University Pathology Clinics, thanks to the continuous and painstaking efforts of both its Directors and its scientific staff.
