Background

The Pulmonology Clinic started operating in November 1999

Activities

Α. Outpatient Clinics

  • Regular Outpatient Clinics Daily 9 am - 2 pm.

Diagnostic approach and follow-up of lung diseases, following scheduled appointments or referral.

Also diagnosis of pleural diseases, staging of lung neoplasms, and in collaboration with a radiology laboratory, interstitial lung biopsies.

  • Stop Smoking Clinic. Every Wednesday 11 am - 13:30 pm.
  • Sleep Disorders Research Clinic.

Outpatient clinic to assess possible apnoea. Multidetectoral studies during sleep.

  • Evening Outpatient Clinics:

Monday: A. Gavriilidou Wednesday: B. V. Tsaousis

Β. Laboratory of Respiratory Function:

Flow-volume curves, bronchial obstruction reversibility test, arterial punctures and respiratory gas study, oximetry, lung volumes and capacities, diffusion capacity assessment, maximum inspiratory and expiratory mouth pressures, 6-minute walk test, bronchial hyperresponsiveness test are performed.

Γ. Bronchoscopic Laboratory
Diagnostic bronchoscopy by taking the indicated materials (cytological, histological, bronchial lavage cultures, immunological study of bronchoalveolar lavage). Therapeutic bronchoscopy.

D. Emergency Department
Participation in general on-call duty

E. Hospitalisation of patients
Mostly in the Pathology Clinics and the Short Stay Department

F. Advisory services
All clinics and ICU in the emerging pulmonary problems.

Z. Preoperative patient assessment

Scientific work

Members of the Hellenic Respiratory Society, the Society for the Study of Pulmonary and Occupational Chest Diseases, the European Respiratory Society and the American College of Chest Physicians. Ms. Kakura is a regular member of the board of examiners for the granting of specialty and a regular member of the boards of review and selection of NHS physicians

A large number of publications, papers, conference presentations and scientific chairs.

Research Protocols

Participation in more than 20 internationally accredited multicentre clinical studies.

Postgraduate Courses

Training/retraining of pulmonologists, residents of the Pathology and Cardiology Clinic and students of the 3rd Pathology Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
