Clinic
Activities
The Nephrology Department consists of the following:
Artificial Kidney Unit, which serves 160-180 patients suffering from chronic end-stage renal failure. At the same time, it treats patients with acute renal failure, covering admissions from the ICU and the needs of all the hospital's clinics. It has 35 haemo-dialysis medical devices, serving patients on a 3-shift basis. The modern haemodialysis techniques and technology used have significantly improved the quality of life of kidney patients. Τhe Unit is also equipped with a gas analyser, biochemical test analyser, microscope, osmometer and all necessary medical devices.
Peritoneal Dialysis Unit, which serves 40-60 outpatients, who apply their treatment at home and are monitored by our staff on a monthly basis. They apply continuous portable home peritoneal dialysis (PCD) or automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) at night. The unit has two specially designed single-bed wards, which are used exclusively for the training of patients and their caregivers.
Therapeutic Plasmapheresis Unit, which offers specialised forms of treatment (plasmapheresis, immunosorption and LDL-removal). It is considered to be among the best and most advanced European facilities in terms of methodology, technology and clinical practice.
Nephrology Clinic, which has 13 independent beds for the treatment of patients with nephrological diseases as well as patients who are candidates for or have undergone a kidney transplant. It is fully supported by the radiology department, the nuclear medicine department and all other departments of the hospital. The Nephrology Clinic has a stand-alone ultrasound device for the shortest diagnostic approach to patients and the performance of guided renal biopsy.
Outpatient Clinics, which are open daily from 0900-1300 Monday-Friday. There are, in total, four general nephrology outpatient clinics, for glomerulonephritis, systemic diseases, kidney transplantation, metabolic diseases, hereditary kidney diseases and arterial hypertension, one outpatient clinic for end-stage chronic renal failure, four peritoneal dialysis outpatient clinics and one for diabetic kidney disease, in collaboration with the diabetology department. In addition to the regular outpatient clinics, evening clinics are also available on a private basis for a fee.
Psychoneurology Group, in collaboration with the psychiatrists. Doctors and nurses of the department are involved in detecting the psychological profile of patients and providing therapeutic support where needed.
The Department of Nephrology, according to Y7a/GP7524/18-01-2001, grants full specialization (four years) in nephrology. The training of residents is divided into 8 semesters.
