Ecological awareness

Papageorgiou General Hospital reinforces and promotes its ecological awareness, by implementing policies related to the following fields:

  • Waste Management
  • Energy saving
  • Bioclimatic Architectural Design of Buildings

The aim is, to reduce the burden on the environment and to enhance the ecological awareness of workers and citizens by providing services based on the respect for people and the environment. The planning and implementation of the actions are the result of cooperation between the Public Health Supervisors and the department of the Technical Services.

PREVENTION OF WASTE PRODUCTION

The primary goal of our hospital is prevention in waste generation. Prevention is achieved by methods such as:

  • Rational stock management
  • FIFO system in storage areas
  • Exploitation of digital communication to reduce paper usage
  • Double-sided printing option, avoid colour and unnecessary printing

ALTERNATIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT

Our Hospital complies with the obligations arising from the current legislation on the management of Waste from Healthcare Units and cooperates with licensed companies and approved collective systems of alternative management, in order to utilize large quantities of waste produced by its activities.

  • Use of electronic patches.
  • Reduction of lighting in public areas where it is not necessary (corridors, warehouses).
  • Gradual installation of energy-saving switches for appliances and lighting.
  • Installation of photovoltaic systems 500 KW.
  • Implementation of an optimum start & stop program for air conditioning units.

Use of Ecological Paints

The reference to user and environmentally friendly paints (dyes) usually refers to paints with a low content of 'Volatile Organic Compounds' (abbreviation: WTO) or 'Volatile Organic Compounds' (abbreviation: VOC).
