Background

The dental department of the PAPAGEORGIOU G.P.N. began operating in 2000.

Activities

The dental department operates from Monday to Friday at the outpatient clinic department, by appointment. It performs approximately 3,500 dental procedures per year.

The dental interventions performed are the following:

• Prevention for children up to 14 years of age
• Dental therapy to patients of the hospital's clinics, as well as to outpatients.
• treat patients under antineoplastic treatment after irradiation of the affected area (head and neck), who show symptoms from the oropharyngeal system, such as dry mouth, mucositis, etc., as well as patients under chemotherapeutic antineoplastic treatment.
• pre-transplant screening, providing dental treatment to patients suffering from chronic kidney failure and to patients of the hospital's cardiac surgery clinic who are candidates for artificial heart valve placement. Patients with chronic diseases are also treated.
• a simple oral check-up, cleaning and treatment of possible tooth damage (such as fillings, removal of caries and gingivitis, etc.)

Scientific Work

Dimitris Bougas has eleven presentations in dental conferences, two publications in scientific journals, one scientific paper in a foreign language medical journal and is the author of a book entitled "Continuing education in the health centers of the B' PESY of central Macedonia".He is a member of the Dental Society of Northern Greece.
