General

The 2nd Dermatology Clinic AUTh of the Papageorgiou Hospital, is a modern clinic - an example, in terms of its operating structure, its organization, but also in terms of its research work. The clinic is part of the most modern Public Hospital of Northern Greece. The main objective of the clinic is to provide high quality health services to dermatological patients in need.

The responsible Director of the Dermatology Clinic is Associate Professor Mrs. Elizabeth Lazaridou.

Presentation of the B Dermatology Clinic

The 2nd Dermatology Clinic was founded on the basis of the development plan of the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in April 2004 and by that time, the late Professor Angelos Teknetzis was elected as its director.

The clinic started operating under the direction of Professor Dimitrios Sotiriadis since September 2007, while the operation of the outpatient clinics and subsequently the inpatients were fully developed by June 2008.

Since the 1st of September 2017 the clinic operates under the direction of Associate Professor Mrs. Elizabeth Lazaridou.

It is located on the 1st floor of Papageorgiou Hospital, has 8 inpatient beds and covers the entire range of dermatological and venereal diseases.

The B Dermatology Clinic is dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and early treatment of skin diseases.

The Clinic consists of the following departments:

Septic Surgery

The septic surgery is open daily and performs treatments with cryotherapy, transthermal coagulation and CO2. In addition, in this department, exceptions / biopsies of lesions of the skin and its parts are performed, in order to make the correct diagnosis after the histopathological examination and their correct treatment.

Other treatments carried out:

  • Photodynamic therapy
  • UVB treatment
  • PUVA treatment
  • Infusion of biological therapies in short-stay hospitalisation

 

Research work

This includes the preparation of doctoral theses, participation in multicentric studies and research protocols and collaborations with dermatological centres abroad. Indicatively mentioned are:

α) Pan-European registry for the registration and monitoring of patients suffering from transfungal sweating sickness

b) Determination of cytokines IL-17A, IL-17F and IL-22 in patients with spongiform mycosis

c) Correlation of inflammation markers with the onset and course of depression in psoriatic patients before and after the administration of systemic treatment

d) Detection of circulating miRNAs as diagnostic markers in patients with early-stage Spongiform Mycosis

e) Effect of vitamin D on the course of patients with common and leafy Pemphigus

f) Determination of Lewis blood group phenotypes and salivary ABH antigen secretion in Pemphigus patients

g) Association of COL17A1 genetic diversity with the occurrence of Pompholygous Pemphigoid in patients with Neurological Diseases

η) The role of lymphocyte populations in alopecia
