NIKOLAOS PAPAGEORGIOU
National Benefactor and Donor of Papageorgiou Hospital (1930-2022)
First Chairman of the Board, from 1997 to 2009
"Since the construction of Papageorgiou Hospital, the only goal was to become a model hospital, comparable to those of developed European countries. After more than twenty years of operation, the provision of high quality services to the residents of Thessaloniki and Northern Greece in general, is universally recognized. But we do not stop here, we are constantly striving, emphasizing on education and research. Our staff, who from the very beginning shared our vision, has not stopped trying with responsibility and dignity, in order to serve the needs of patients to the best possible extent, fully understanding the criticality of their role."
Nikolaos Papageorgiou
VASILIOS PAPAS (1943-2022)
τέως Πρόεδρος Δ.Σ., από το 2009 έως το 2019
"In accordance to the vision of the brothers Nikolaos and Leonidas Papageorgiou, donors of the Hospital, the efforts of all the members of the Administration, far from any "influences", the efforts and interest of the employees, and the long-lasting support of the Papageorgiou Foundation, the Hospital has been appreciated by the citizens for the quality of the services provided, for the scientific training of the staff, but also for the willingness and generosity of the employees. After twenty years of operation and according to an evaluation by an international committee, carried out on behalf of the AUTh, the Papageorgiou Hospital is considered to be one the best in Europe.
It is true that the efforts for improvement have never stopped. In infrastructure, medical equipment, training and education of staff. Efforts to increase productivity and reduce unnecessary expenditure and operating costs, which have achieved enviable results, as reflected in the comparative data of the Ministry of Health. An autonomous path that we are willing to follow without the expected support of the state.
As a result, there is a excessively high demand of our services from citizens all over northern Greece. This, has the consequent side effect of being unable to meet the increased demand very often. For this reason, the understanding of the citizens was requested, with the hope that when primary care becomes reality in our country, Papageorgiou Hospital will be able to operate, as a third level hospital.
