B' Department of Pediatric Surgery, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Clinic

The scope of Pediatric Surgery includes the treatment of surgical congenital disorders and acquired surgical diseases of all systems, which occur from birth to the age of 14 years.
The specialty of Pediatric Surgery encompasses the life cycle of a person, from birth to final development.
The paediatric surgeon at Great Ormond street Hospital in London, Sir Burrington Ward, in 1928 stated that treating the adult surgical patient as if he was a child is a scientifically accepted view. Whereas, the opposite, that is, when the child is regarded as a miniature of the adult, this leads to erroneous results.
This is due to the many peculiarities and differences of the young patient, compared to the adult and especially for newborns and infants. All of the above, reinforce the necessary role of the pediatric surgeon in the treatment of the various congenital and acquired surgical conditions of Neonatal, Infant and Childhood.
