The MEDICAL PHYSICS - RADIOPHYSICS DEPARTMENT is responsible for all applications of ionizing radiations and for Radiation Protection issues and its scope of activity involves applications related to the Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine and Radiodiagnostics Department.
The radiophysicists of the MEDICAL PHYSICS - RADIOPHYSICS DEPARTMENT carry out quality controls over all ionizing radiation equipment of the above-mentioned departments in order to optimize and ensure quality; they are also responsible for the dosimetry of the employees and patients, they monitor observance of the radiation protection rules and regulations and provide advice on the introduction of new, complex techniques and the procurement of state-of-the-art equipment. Along with the Directors of each department, they are responsible towards the Greek Atomic Energy Commission (EEAE) on radiotherapy issues.

The MEDICAL PHYSICS - RADIOPHYSICS DEPARTMENT is fully equipped with dosimetry and quality control instruments, as provided for by the legislation in force.

The radiophysicists of the MEDICAL PHYSICS - RADIOPHYSICS DEPARTMENT actively participate in continuous training courses both as trainers and as trainees. The department personnel's research interests are mainly focused on dosimetry and image processing. The results of the research activities of the department are published in Greek and International Scientific Journals and Conferences.
In addition, the Department is responsible for training Resident Radiophysicists in the framework of their residency as well as students of the School of Physics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
