Educational Work

Approximately 80 Medical students are trained annually in our Clinic in the framework of the compulsory General Surgery module of the 6th, 7th and 11th semester. The 1st University Surgery Clinic is responsible for delivering and examining the elective modules on

  • Surgical Oncology and
  • Vascular Surgery to 9th-semester students.

Medical students receive theoretical training through weekly meetings and courses taking place in the clinic and through daily discussion of cases; they also participate in a range of supervised surgical procedures as well as in the operation of emergency outpatient practices and outpatient practices operating by appointment.
The experience acquired until recently by students in treating critically ill patients in the ICU of the Clinic in ACHEPA Hospital, and for which solely responsible were the physicians of the Clinic, was also considerable. For this reason, there has already been a collaboration with the Director of the ICU of the Papageorgiou Hospital aiming at occasional training of the students in the ICU of the hospital.
The 1st University Surgery Clinic is responsible for organizing Training Courses in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery which are held in the teaching rooms and the auditorium of the Papageorgiou Hospital on a weekly basis and attended by fellow physicians of other specializations, as well as in the Ceremony Hall of the Thessaloniki Medical Association under the auspices of the Surgical Society of Northern Greece.
Both Greek and European Vascular Surgeons are trained on innovative surgical techniques that are applied in the 1st University Surgery Clinic
